The Chennai Super Kings are playing for survival as they host the Punjab Kings on Wednesday at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

The Chennai Super Kings (2-7-0, 4 points) have their backs against the wall on Wednesday, as they host the Pubjab Kings (5-3-1, 11 points) in an Indian Premier League match at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Super Kings, five-time IPL champions, but at the bottom of the table, would be the first team eliminated from playoff contention with a loss on Wednesday. Punjab, on the other hand, can leapfrog three teams and jump from fifth to second place with a victory. Each team has five matches remaining in the league stage of the tournament, with the top four teams qualifying for the playoffs. The Kings won the first meeting between the teams by 18 runs at New Chandigarh on April 8.

Punjab comes off a no-result against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday after steady rain and strong winds made the Edem Gardens ground in Kolkata unplayable. The team lost its previous match at home to first-place Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 20. The Kings had hung up 201/4 before the rains washed out the match after just one over during the Knight Riders innings.

Chennai dropped a five-wicket decision to visiting Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday, 155/5-154, with the Sunrisers reaching the target with eight balls remaining. Dewald Brewis, who joined the club as an injury replacement on April 18, led the attack with 42 (25) while Ayush Mhatre added 30 (19). Noor Ahmad claimed two wickets but leaked 42 runs.

Priyansh Arya leads the Kings batters with 323 runs while Prabhsimran Singh checks in with 292. Arshdeep Singh leads the bowlers with 11 wickets taken and Glenn Maxwell has an 8.46 economy rate.
