Time running out for defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders to get on track as they host the Punjab Kings on Saturday

The Kolkata Knight Riders (3-5-0, 6 points) won their third Indian Premier League championship in 2024, but the batters have had trouble getting things going in the 2025 tournament. The Knight Riders are the lowest-scoring team in the IPL at 147.4 runs per match as they prepare to host the Punjab Kings (5-3-0, 10 points) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India, on Saturday. Punjab is one of six teams in the league with at least 10 points in the standings and are in a tight battle with the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants for fourth place at this point. The Kings haven’t reached the playoffs since finishing runner-up in 2014 while Kolkata has made the knockout stage just twice in that span.
