No. 3 Northwestern looks to bounce back from its first Big Ten loss in nearly 2 years when it hosts Rutgers on Saturday evening.
Defending national champion Northwestern (9-2) looks to get back on the winning track in Big Ten play when it hosts Rutgers (5-5) at Ryan Fieldhouse in Evanston, Illinois. The Wildcats fell to No. 3 in the national poll after a stunning loss at Penn State on March 22 but bounced back with a non-conference road win on Monday. Northwestern has played in the last 18 NCAA tournaments and has eight national titles since 2005. The Scarlet Knights have lost four games in a row and are 0-3 in Big Ten play and last reached the NCAA tournament in 2022, when they won a school-record 16 games.

The Wildcats came back from an early 3-2 deficit for a 16-10 win at No. 13 North Carolina on Monday. Izzy Scane netted seven goals and Dylan Amonte added four while Molly Maliberty notched nine saves. That came on the heels of the loss at Penn State, the team’s first Big Ten loss since a 13-5 defeat at Rutgers on May 6, 2022. Northwestern is 1-1 in Big Ten play.
Rutgers couldn’t recover from an early 6-1 deficit in its 13-8 loss at then-No. 2 Maryland on Sunday. Cassidy Spilis paced the attack with five goals in the loss but the Scarlet Knights are still hunting for their first conference victory.
Scane leads the Wildcats with 49 goals and Madison Taylor has netted 40 this season. Spilis owns more than a third of Rutgers’ 120 goals this season, scoring 41. Payton Tini is next on the scoring list with 12.
