Guingamp have announced the death of forward Nathael Julan following a car collision.
The Ligue 2 club published a statement (via Goal), which read:
"The club had the immense pain of learning this afternoon of the accidental death of their player Nathael Julan. On this tragic day, all the members of the club join together to send their condolences to Nathael's family."
The 23-year-old made his professional debut for Le Havre before he joined Guingamp in 2018, racking up 13 total appearances for the Costamoricans. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Valenciennes, scoring twice and recording one assist in 13 games for his temporary employers.
Per Goal’s report, Julan was “involved in a car accident on the road to Pordic, near the town of Saint-Brieuc,” east of Guingamp. It’s been confirmed the striker was the driver at the time of the collision.
The Normandy native only played 64 minutes of football this season and hasn’t appeared for Guingamp since August, when he started in a 4-1 Coupe de la Ligue defeat to US Orleans.
Julan’s death came almost one year after former Nantes striker Emiliano Sala died in a plane crash shortly after completing a transfer to Premier League club Cardiff City.
