They closed out January with a big upset and a road loss in the last week. They welcomed in former No. 13-ranked Texas A&M and took them down by one point in a huge upset. Tre Johnson, the stellar freshman, dropped 30 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field and a perfect night at the free-throw line. Over the weekend, they dropped their fifth conference game to No. 23-ranked Ole Miss by just three points.

The LSU Tigers are 12-8 overall this season. They finished their non-conference schedule with a similar record at 11-2, but have since lost six SEC games and only beaten one conference team. That lone win in the conference came against Arkansas in the middle of January by four points at home. Cam Carter dropped 27 points on 7-of-15 shooting in that win.

They closed out the month with two AP Top Five ranked losses to No. 4 Alabama on the road and No. 1 Auburn at home. They lost the first by seven points and the second by 13 points. Carter leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 17.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He is followed by Jordan Sears, who is averaging 14.0 points per game.
