Bayern Munich are clear favorites to win the 2020 UEFA Champions League after a recent 8-2 annihilation of Barcelona, but underdogs Lyon hope to stage another surprise on Wednesday in search of their first final.

The French upstarts aren’t to be underestimated after Rudi Garcia masterminded Lyon’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the quarter-finals, an astonishing follow-up act to them knocking out Juventus.

Lyon vs Bayern Munich Lineups

There were no changes to the Lyon or Bayern Munich lineup off the back of their quarterfinal triumphs. In Lyon's case, that might come as a bit of a shock given the two-goal performance from super-sub Moussa Dembele. Benjamin Pavard returns to the bench for Bayern.

Lyon-Bayern Munich Betting Odds

Bayern Munich are the odds-on betting favorite, which is expected after their 8-2 demolition of Barcelona.

Five-time European champions Bayern have won all nine of their Champions League matchups so far this season and boast two of the three top scorers in the competition. Robert Lewandowski has netted 14 times in Europe this season—at least four more than any other player—while Serge Gnabry sits on seven.

Lyon have scored 14 goals as a team in their nine outings to this point, hinting at the job that awaits them at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon if they’re to reach the contest’s crescendo.

Bayern are unlikely to make any changes to the team that tore the Blaugrana apart on Friday, with Hansi Flick blessed for options and defender Benjamin Pavard the only doubt as things stand. Ivan Perisic impressed in a scoring display against Barca and should keep his place ahead of Kingsley Coman, though the Frenchman is battling to regain his place after recovering from a knee injury.

One conundrum for Garcia lies in whether to promote Moussa Dembele to his XI after the striker scored twice off the bench in Saturday’s win against City. Lyon are looking to end a run of three defeats in as many meetings with Bayern, who have won four of their eight meetings with Lyon overall (two draws).

Lyon’s last victory over Die Roten came in November 2003 when a signature free-kick from Juninho Pernambucano helped Les Gones triumph 2-1 and top their group ahead of the Germans:

A shock of much larger proportions is required if Lyon are to continue their Champions League journey this time around. The Ligue 1 team don’t look like they’ve been hurt by France’s decision to curtail their season in April, while an active approach has worked best for Bayern, still in pursuit of a European and domestic treble.

Flick stressed the need to “look ahead, collect energy and then things start at 0-0” when facing Lyon, content not to rest easy following a one-sided result against Barca. Seven years have passed since their last appearance in a Champions League final, while Lyon are stacking up an illustrious list of victims as they look to make their bow in Europe’s biggest fixture.
