The Freedom successfully chased 221 on Sunday to beat the Texas Super Kings by seven wickets, 223/3-220/6. Mitchell Owen set the tone, leading off with an 89 (52) and Andries Gous helped finish it off with an 80 not out (45). Owen also had a solid turn on the other side of the bat, bowling a 3-33 while captain Glenn Maxwell added a 2-35 effort.

Los Angeles also comes off a match with the Super Kings, dropping a 52-run decision 196/8-144/7 on Tuesday night. Unmukt Chand led the failed chase with 30 (30) while captain Jason Holder posted 26 not out (17). Andre Russell and Shadley van Schalkwyk each took three wickets, but Van Schalkwyk leaked 51 runs in the process.

In the teams’ first meeting in Oakland on June 17, Washington opted to bat and clobbered the Knight Riders by 113 runs, 208/5-95, getting 106 not out (49) with 13 6s from Maxwell. Owen is third in MLC with 245 runs to pace the Freedom while Maxwell is at 185. Owen is also tied for fourth in the league with nine wickets, with Ian Holland posting a 7.50 economy rate. Chand paces Los Angeles with 191 runs and Saif Badar has 122. Russell and Van Schalkwyk have claimed eight wickets apiece and Sunil Narine boasts the team’s best economy rate at 7.69.
