Major League Cricket opens its 3rd season as the San Francisco Unicorns take on the Washington Freedom in a rematch of the 2024 Final.
The last time the San Francisco Unicorns and Washington Freedom met on the cricket grounds, the Freedom romped to a 96-run victory to win the 2024 Major League Cricket championship. On Thursday night, the Unicorns and Freedom open the third season of MLC T20 cricket as the league opens a 10-match run at Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California, before moving on to Dallas and Broward County, Florida, over the next three weeks. The same slate of teams returns for the third straight season, with the Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, Seattle Orcas and Texas Super Kings joining the Unicorns and Freedom.

The Unicorns are captained by Corey Anderson and return Finn Allen, last season’s leading run-producer with 306, fourth-most in the league. Hassan Khan finished 2024 with 204 runs and is also back for San Francisco. Khan also tied for fifth in MLC with 10 wickets and Matthew Short posted a team-best 6.93 economy rate, working in five matches.
Washington has a new captain for 2025 in Glenn Maxwell, who was part of last year’s title run. Former captain Steve Smith is back after scoring a team-best 336 runs, tied for second in the MLC with teammate Travis Head, who is not playing on the circuit in 2025. The Freedom feature the top two bowlers from last season, as well, with Saurabh Netravalkar leading the league with 15 wickets and Rachin Ravindra posting a 4.81 economy rate.
The Freedom and Unicorns had matching 5-1-1 records last season before Washington won both the Qualifier and Final in head-to-head matchups.
