Old Glory DC (8-7, 45 points) is locked into a road game for next week’s Eastern Conference semifinals but can end the regular season on a winning note when it visits the San Diego Legion (7-8, 43 points) at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on Saturday night. The stakes are much higher for the Legion, who are one point out of the final playoff spot in the West behind the Seattle Seawolves. San Diego has reached the playoffs the last three seasons, playing for the Major League Rugby Shield in 2023, while Old Glory DC will make its third straight postseason appearance.

The Legion lost their third straight match last week, dropping a 36-32 decision at the Miami Sharks on May 30. San Diego fell behind 17-0 in the first 16 minutes and got as close as three points after Jed Holloway’s try in the 46th minute closed the gap to 20-17. Hugh Roach scored a pair of tries in the loss.

Old Glory DC also fell short last week, falling 43-32 to visiting RFC Los Angeles a week after upsetting the two-time defending MLR champion New England Free Jacks. DC went up 22-7 after Axel Muller’s second try in a three-minute span in the 30th minute before RFCLA roared back to secure the win.

Muller leads Old Glory with eight tries and Jason Davey-Emery has a team-best 62 points. Cory Gilliland-Daniel’s 221 tackles top the club and John Rizzo has won eight turnovers. For the Legion, Shilo Klein has 10 tries and Lincoln McClutchie has tallied 69 points. Bradley Wilkin’s 196 tackles are the most on the squad and Holloway and Ryan James each have won 10 turnovers.
