The Las Vegas Raiders are on the bubble of playoff of contention but that bubble looks smaller and smaller every week; like those little ones from your kindergarten bubble lawnmower. Certainly the Raiders will have to win out to stay alive with a 7-7 record going into their matchup with the Miami Dolphins this week. The Raiders though also need some help if they are going stay alive. If the Raiders win but the Baltimore Ravens also win, they are out.

It didn't help last week that QB Derek Carr went down before the half with a groin injury. He was replaced by backup Marcus Mariota and he filled in admirably but ultimately lost in overtime to the previously 4-9 Chargers. Effectively it was a must win game.

It was uncertain all week whether Carr would be able to go this week. Mariota's style of extending plays with his legs is very different than Carr's adamant air attack. This misdirection should help them against the Dolphins but this defense is stout under head coach Brian Flores. They should be ready either way.

The Raiders have the worst chance percentage wise to get back into the playoffs for the first time in the new Jon Gruden era at less than one percent. If the playoffs started today, the Dolphins would be in as the last seed. But they aren't guaranteed to finish the season in the playoffs. Besides the Raiders, they have the worst shot in the AFC right now among the teams remaining at 28 percent. The Ravens would be out if the season started today but they have an astounding 88 percent chance of reaching the playoffs with very weak opponents, the Giants and Bengals, remaining on their schedule.

Even if the Dolphins don't make it, Flores should be highly considered for coach of the year. This team was tanking last year and they have a shot at the playoffs this year. If they make it they will have a plethora of picks in 2021 as well. They would be the first team in nearly two decades to make the playoffs and also have a top-10 pick in the next year's draft.

When they traded Laremy Tunsil to the Texans, the Dolphins got Houston's first round pick for 2021. The Texans are terrible this year and if they lose out, the Dolphins could have another top-five pick which is the exact same spot they drafted Tua Tagovailoa last year. Whatever happens to finish this season, the future looks bright for this franchise for the first time maybe since Dan Marino retired in 1999.
