Mike Zimmer has been the coach for the Minnesota Vikings since 2014. In that tenure, he has not once beat the Seattle Seahawks. That included a playoff game in early 2016 that they were up 9-0 and then lost 10-9 after a missed chip-shot field goal that was played in about -1000 degree weather. Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson we're still on the team which now feels about 1000 years ago.

Enough reminiscing about the past. This is the worst start through a quarter of the season under Zimmer. How will these Vikings beat arguably the best team in football? Well they hit their prerequisite of beating a bad Houston Texans team to get their first win of the season. Bill O'Brien was subsequently fired after that game. That means the Texans expected to beat the Vikings.

Needless to say Minnesota isn't particularly running away with things this season. They seem to be turning a corner though. After two blowout losses to start the season, they only lost to the Titans by one in the last moments of the game and looked in control against the Texans. They must contain on defense like they did Deshaun Watson and get their running game going like last year to open up the passing game for Kirk Cousins. Boy are they missing Stefon Diggs right now who was traded to Buffalo in the offseason.

The Vikings may have a window to get that passing game going now that safety Jamal Adams has been ruled out for this game. Also, the Seahawks didn't exactly dominate a much inferior Miami Dolphins team last week. Russell Wilson was held in relative check. But that just means he threw for two touchdowns instead of five. The Vikings defense should be better than Miami but they aren't the stout defense they've become known for under the great defensive mind of Zimmer, a long-time defensive coordinator.

The pass game has to get better and that means rookie receiver Justin Jefferson, drafted by the Vikings in a pick they got from the Bills, needs to be that clear number two receiver like Diggs was. We'll be watching for that development in this game after Jefferson has already started the season strong.

For the Seahawks, this is kind of unbelievable to type, but they haven't started a season 5-0 in franchise history. They were one of the best teams in the 2010s and they could easily be called the first best team of the 2020s. Regardless, you think that would have happened at least once since 1976 when they entered the league. They were close having 4-1 start in 1984, 1986, 2003, 2006, 2013, 2016, 2019. Wilson is leading the MVP race even above Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers.

He is leading the league in touchdowns (16) opposed to two interceptions and 1,285 yards (good for fourth). This team has a chance to be the best Seahawks team since their 2013 Super Bowl winning squad. While the defense isn't as good as that team, this offense can hang with anybody. Expect this to be a tight game but Wilson will will his way to the go ahead score and the Seahawks will go 5-0 for the first time ever.
