Despite a slow start to May, Arizona first baseman Ildemaro Vargas leads the Diamondbacks hitting .341 this season which ranks the journeyman third in all of baseball. Vargas, now in his third stint with Arizona, began the season with a 23-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 30 of his first 32 games this season, earning him National League Player of the Month honors. 

After consecutive 3-for-4 outings, Rangers third baseman Josh Jung is hitting a team-leading .331 this season but has struggled against Arizona hitting just .194 in 10 career games against the Diamondbacks. Jung, now in his fifth season in the big leagues, is on pace for his third career 120-hit campaign and is halfway to a third career double-digit home run season, having hit five homers already this year.
