The Pirates come into Sunday’s game with an impressive record of 11-5 so far in spring training play with their most recent game resulting in a 5-3 win over the Tigers on Saturday afternoon. Justin Lawrence earned his first win on the mound with one inning of work in which he only gave up one hit and struck out one batter. Esmerlyn Valdez brought in the Pirates’ first two runs with a two-run single to right field and Termarr Johnson extended that lead with an RBI single to center field. Detroit tied the game back up at 3-3, but Jhostynxon Garcia ground into a double play to bring Keiner Delgado home. Yordany De Los Santos brought in the final run with an RBI single in the eighth.

The Red Sox are also coming into Sunday’s game following a win on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays in a 2-0 victory. While the game did not see any big hits, the Red Sox were able to produce a pair of runs and hold off the Rays to secure the win. Justin Gonzales hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second and Trevor Story hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the fifth to bring home Kristian Campbell. John Oviedo earned his first win of the season on the mound with 3.1 innings of work in which he struck out four.

The Pirates and Red Sox have already met once in Grapefruit League play and Pittsburgh won handily in a high-scoring 16-7 win. They will meet one more time after Sunday’s game, as well.
