How to Watch Guardians at Athletics: Stream MLB Live, TV Channel

The Cleveland Guardians continue their season-opening 4-game set with the Oakland Athletics on Friday after a dominant win.

Things couldn’t have started much better for new Cleveland Guardians (1-0) manager Stephen Vogt. The Guardians cruised to an opening-night shutout over the Oakland Athletics (0-1) and continue the series at Oakland Coliseum on Friday night. Vogt only left the playing ranks after the 2022 season and got the task of replacing longtime skipper Terry Francona after a single season as the Miami Marlins’ bullpen coach. Cleveland slept through much of the offseason, signing catcher Austin Hedges to a one-year, $4 million deal. The Athletics signed left-hander Alex Wood away from their Bay Area rivals, the San Francisco Giants, to a one-year deal and got right-hander Ross Stripling and $3.5 million of the remaining $15 million on his contract from the Giants in a trade.

Shane Bieber struck out 11 and allowed only four hits in six shutout innings in the Guardians’ 8-0 win on Thursday night. Cleveland broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, capped by rookie shortstop Brayan Rocchio’s two-run double. David Fry was 3-for-4 with an RBI as well.

Wood was roughed up in his Oakland debut, surrendering six hits in 3.1 innings. JJ Bleday had two of the A’s four hits as well as their lone extra-base hit, a double.

Stripling gets the starting nod on Friday for Oakland. He was 0-5 in 22 appearances and 11 starts for San Francisco last season with a 5.36 ERA and 1.348 ERA in 89 innings. The Guardians go with left-hander Logan Allen, who started 24 games as a rookie in 2023 while going 7-8 with a 3.81 ERA and 1.396 WHIP in 125.1 innings.
