Nick Martinez will battle Hunter Brown as the Reds meet the Astros on Friday night in the first game of a weekend series.

On Friday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros will take the field for the first time this weekend at Daikin Park for a three-game series in Houston, Texas. The Reds are 19-20 overall this season, looking to go above the .500 mark with a win in this series this weekend. They didn’t help themselves by losing three of four games against the Atlanta Braves earlier this week. The only game Cincinnati won was a one-run 4-3 victory in the third game. Elly De La Cruz leads the team with five home runs and 25 RBIs. He is tied with Austin Hays, but Hays has just 13 RBIs.

The Astros finished up their series against the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week. After losing two of the three games, narrowly escaping the sweep with a 9-1 win on Wednesday, they are even in their overall record at 18-18. Jeremy Pena has been batting the best on the team this season with five home runs and 16 RBIs.

Nick Martinez will take the mound for Cincinnati to start this series on the road. The right-hander is 1-3 this season with a 4.19 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 38.2 total innings. He has now given up just one earned run in each of his last two starts. Martinez went 6.0 innings in both of those starts as well with six strikeouts last week against the Washington Nationals.

On the other side of the half inning, Hunter Brown will take the mound for Houston in the first inning. The right-hander is 5-1 this season, the second most wins in the MLB, with a 1.67 ERA, the fifth lowest in the league. He blew his worst start of the season last week, giving up three earned runs, three times as much as his last four starts combined, in 6.0 innings.
