The Angels are coming off an emphatic win in the rubber match of their series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday winning 11-1. Mike Trout, Jo Adell and Taylor Ward all hit two homers apiece in the rout. Trout donned a fireman’s helmet in celebration in the dugout. Jo Adell homered twice in the fifth inning to put the game away becoming only the third Angel to ever hit two homers in one inning. Jose Soriano was just as dominant as the offense by going 7.2 innings while only giving up one run on five hits. The Angels will start Jack Kochanowicz in this opener. He is 1-0 and has pitched well in his last two starts. He got his first win of the season in his last start against the Cleveland Guardians going five innings while giving up two runs off two homers.

The Astros are coming off a tough one-run loss in their rubber match against the Mariners on Wednesday losing 7-6. Things were looking great for Houston with a 98 percent chance to win in the eighth holding a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning. But Randy Arozarena hit a grand slam that changed the entire outlook of the game. Houston still scored another run to grab some insurance in the top of the ninth but it still wasn’t enough. After Julio Rodriguez hit a two-RBI double in the ninth to tie it, Bryan Abreu had too much trouble getting out of the inning walking home Arozarena to walk off the game. Houston will try to bounce back by starting Ronel Blanco who is 0-1 but only went 1.2 innings in his last outing giving up four runs in a no-decision which the team won against the Minnesota Twins.
