Retooled Milwaukee Brewers chase a 3rd straight NL Central crown, take on the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.

The Milwaukee Brewers (6-7) accomplished a franchise first in 2024, winning their second straight National League Central title, but once again washed out in the NL Wild Card series. On Saturday, Milwaukee hosts the Los Angeles Angels (5-8) at American Family Fields of Phoenix in a Cactus League contest. The Brewers have played in the postseason six of the last seven seasons, but haven’t advanced past the opening round since 2018. Los Angeles last played in the postseason in 2014 and lost a franchise-record 99 games a season ago.

Milwaukee made a late move, signing left-hander José Quintana to a one-year contract on Wednesday. The club traded closer Devin Williams to the New York Yankees, adding a rotation arm in left-hander Nestor Cortes as well as infielder Caleb Durbin, while shortstop Willy Adames left in free agency. Right-hander Brandon Woodruff, recovering from a shoulder injury, may pitch in a minor-league game on Tuesday, while reliever Aaron Ashby (oblique) has been shut down for two weeks.

The Angels added free agents Yusei Kikuchi, who is slated for an Opening Day start, and Kyle Hendricks to the rotation and Kenley Jansen to the back end of the bullpen. They also added a veteran power bat in outfielder Jorge Soler in a deal with the Atlanta Braves. Shortstop Zach Neto, recovering from an shoulder, won’t be ready for Opening Day while second baseman Luis Rengifo is nursing a hamstring injury.

Los Angeles dropped an 8-2 rain-shortened game in six innings to the Kansas City Royals, while their other split-squad matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks was rained out. The Brewers lost their scheduled game with the San Diego Padres to rain as well. Right-hander Elvin Rodriguez is set to make his first spring start for Milwaukee after fanning five in 2.2 innings over a pair of relief appearances. Left-hander Tyler Anderson has been roughed up five runs over 4.1 innings in his first two starts in Arizona.
