The Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to fend off a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels in this series finale on Sunday.
The Freeway Series heads into the finale when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon. Coming into this series, many would have thought the Dodgers would have a good chance at sweeping the Angels. The Dodgers are leading the stacked National League West with a 29-17 record, while the Angels are last in the American League West with a 19-25 record coming into this finale. But it is the Angels with the chance to sweep the Dodgers today. The Dodgers are still leading the division, but the San Diego Padres are just one game back of that spot.

The Angels won 6-2 in the opener and while the outcome was the same, Game 2 was a wildly different game. The Angels won a close 11-9 game on Saturday with the offense exploding from the get go. Both teams scored three runs in the first inning and combined for 28 hits on the evening. What was billed as a pitcher’s duel coming in was anything but. Tyler Anderson was out after five innings, giving up four runs, and the Angels spoiled Clayton Kershaw’s season debut after the future Hall of Famer gave up five runs in just four innings. The Angels were fueled by homers by Logan O’Hoppe, Taylor Ward and Matthew Lugo. The Angels completed the comeback by scoring five runs in the seventh inning.
We should be in for a better pitching matchup today. The Dodgers will try to avoid the sweep by starting Tony Gonsolin who is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA. The Angels will start Yusei Kikuchi, who should have a better record, as he is still looking for his first win of the season with a 0-4 record, but holds a 3.72 ERA.
