Los Angeles Angels visit the Cleveland Guardians for the 2nd time this spring in Cactus League action on Tuesday

The Los Angeles Angels (5-5) have dropped their last two games in Cactus League play and on Tuesday hit the road to visit the Cleveland Guardians (2-7) at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona. The Angels scratched Luis Rengifo, their projected starting second baseman, from Monday’s game due to a tight hamstring and he is listed as day-to-day. For Cleveland, right-hander Shane Bieber has progressed to throwing five times a week as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery that will likely sideline him until around midseason after making just two starts in 2024.

Los Angeles signed left-hander Yusei Kikuchi to a three-year contract, brought in catcher Travis d’Arnaud on a two-year deal and inked infielders Yoán Moncada and Kevin Newman, closer Kenley Jansen and starter Kyle Hendricks to one-year pacts while acquiring outfielder Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves for right-hander Griffin Canning and picking up utility man Scott Kingery in a cash deal from the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Guardians were busy on the trade market over the winter, getting right-hander Slade Cecconi from the Arizona Diamondbacks for first baseman Josh Naylor, dealing outfielder Myles Straw to the Toronto Blue Jays and sending second baseman Andrés Giménez and bullpen arm Nick Sandlin to the Blue Jays in a three-team deal that netted right-hander Luis L. Ortiz from the Pittsburgh Pirates and outfielder Nick Mitchell from Toronto. John Means and Jakob Junis joined the pitching staff on one-year deals and Carlos Santana returned to Cleveland as well.

Right-hander Gavin Williams gets his second spring start on Tuesday for the Guardians after fanning three in two scoreless innings on Wednesday. Right-hander Jack Kochanowicz gets the ball for the Angels. He gave up one earned run with three strikeouts in two innings in his last outing on Feb. 22.
