Los Angeles Angels open 9-game road trip with a win, look for 4th straight victory when they face the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Los Angeles Angels (7-3) won their third straight game on Tuesday night in the opener of a nine-game road trip and they can clinch a fourth straight series victory when they face the Tampa Bay Rays (4-6) at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa on Wednesday night. Tampa Bay has dropped five straight as they opened a 13-game homestand on Tuesday and it placed outfielder Jonny DeLuca on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a strained right shoulder. DeLuca was off to a strong start, slashing .435/.480/.522 with four stolen bases. The Rays recalled infielder Coco Montes from Triple-A Durham to fill the roster spot.

Luis Rengifo’s ninth-inning RBI single lifted Los Angeles to a 4-3 victory on Tuesday after it tied the game on a run-scoring groundout in the eighth. Rookie Kyren Paris continued his torrid hitting with a two-run home run in the second and Kyle Hendricks worked five scoreless innings. Catcher Logan O’Hoppe is slashing .367/.387/.867 with five home runs and nine RBI so far.

After trailing 2-0, the Rays struck for three runs in the bottom of the seventh, getting a solo homer from Junior Caminero, an RBI double from Christopher Morel and a triple by Kameron Misner that chased home a run. Shane Baz fanned six in seven innings of work. Jonathan Aranda is off toi a strong start, slashing .385/.452/.731 while Brandon Lowe had three homers and eight RBI.

Right-hander Ryan Pepiot is scheduled to start for Tampa Bay on Wednesday. He took the loss on April 2 against the Pittsburgh Pirates after allowing two runs in five innings. Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi is set to make his third start for the Angels. He comes in 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings and surrendered three runs in six innings in a no-decision at the St. Louis Cardinals on April 2.
