The Kansas City Royals try to get back in the win column and make up ground in the American League Wild Card race when they try to tie this series on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels go for the series win in Game 2 on the road against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. The Angels won the opener 5-1 on Tuesday. This is the first series of the season between these American League opponents. In a rare occurrence, they will play both of their series in the month of September. These two will meet again in LA toward the end of the season. Kansas City is trying to avoid losing three in a row and four of its last five.

This isn’t an ideal time to be dropping games for the Royals. They are still in the AL Wild Card chase. The good news for KC is that it is still only 2.5 games out of the third and final Wild Card spot currently held by the Seattle Mariners. LA is trying to win four of its last five games tonight.

The Angels cruised to victory, winning both aspects of the game comfortably in the opener. Mitch Farris pitched five innings to earn the victory. It was the first of his career in his Major League debut. He only gave up one run and it looked like Farris wouldn’t get the win for awhile though, as the Angels didn’t score until the sixth inning. That came on a two-run home run by Jo Adell that ignited the LA offense.

The Royals will try to get even on Wednesday by starting Ryan Bergert. The righty is 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in five starts this season with Kansas City. He has 12 starts total and 16 games played in his rookie season after starting the year with the San Diego Padres. The Angels have yet to announce a starter for Game 2.
