Daulton Varsho got things going for the Diamondbacks in the top of the fourth with a solo home run over the center-field wall. Josh Rojas helped extend that lead with an RBI single not long after Varsho’s home run. David Peralta brought Rojas home with an RBI single to center field to make it 3-1.

The Cubs were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double from Yan Gomes, but that was the only run they would score in the game.

Zac Gallen had a strong showing on the mound for the Diamondbacks, pitching five innings and only allowing one earned run. His performance marks the second-lowest ERA through seven innings from a Diamondbacks pitcher at 1.14. The lowest came in 2000 from none other than Randy Johnson, with an ERA of 0.93.

The Cubs will need a much stronger showing offensively today if they want to walk away with any wins in this series.
