The Houston Astros look to bounce back and tie this series against the Los Angeles Angels, and keep their playoff hopes alive on Saturday.

These AL West rivals face off for the last time this season, when the Los Angeles Angels host the Houston Astros for Game 2 on Saturday night in the final series of the regular season. Things are getting late for the Astros, and they have no time to start losing now after dropping the opener 4-3. Houston is now in the precarious position of missing the playoffs altogether, after leading the AL West for much of the season. The Seattle Mariners rallied all season, and overtook Houston for the division crown during the week. The Astros still have a shot, but they must win the two remaining games of the season at minimum. Even if they are able to accomplish that, they are one game back of the Detroit Tigers, who are also in free fall, and hold on to the final AL Wild Card spot. Detroit held the AL Central lead longer than Houston was in first in the West. But the Tigers have gone 1-9 in their last 10 games, to give up the lead to the Cleveland Guardians in a historic collapse. This AL playoff chase will be thrilling to watch to the very end. Los Angeles would be all too pleased to spoil its division rivals playoff hopes tonight and win the series. The good thing for the Astros tonight, is that they are the -135 favorites to tie the series.

Houston is falling off at exactly the wrong time, losing six of its last seven games after dropping the opener against the Angels on Friday. Things looked to be turning around for the Astros when they scored three runs in the fourth inning. First baseman Christian Walker kicked off the inning with a solo shot. Then Zach Cole hit an RBI double, and more excitingly stole home to take their biggest lead of the game. The problem was that Houston score the rest of the way. Mike Trout hit his first homer of the night in the bottom of the fourth, to get the Angels first run of the game. Trout would then hit the go-ahead off another solo shot in the eighth inning to effectively win the game.

The Astros are undecided for who they will start in the penultimate game of the regular season. This couldn’t be a more important decision for the club, as they try to keep their season alive. The Angels will try to play spoiler and win this series tonight by starting Caden Dana. The righty is 0-3 with a 6.39 ERA in four starts.
