Houston has now won five straight games and is 8-2 in its last 10 contests, as the Astros hold onto a 4.5-game lead in the American League West. The Astros are 41-30 overall with a 14-17 road record this season and a +38 run differential. The Athletics, on the other hand, are in last place in the division with a 29-44 record. The Athletics have won three straight games and are an even 6-4 over their last 10 contests. Houston will send righty Lance McCullers to the mound against Athletics right-hander Mitch Spence in the series opener.

Most recently, the Astros walked off against the Twins in a 2-1 victory to complete a three-game sweep on Sunday. Victor Caratini tied the game with a sac-fly in the ninth inning and then Mauricio Dubon won the game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring ghost runner Jake Meyers from second base. Astros starter Brandon Walker pitched six-plus strong innings, allowing only one run with nine strikeouts.
As for the Athletics, they completed a sweep of their own with a 3-2 victory over the Royals in Kansas City on Sunday. Nick Kurtz hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to lift the Athletics to a win. It was Kurtz’s sixth homer on the season, giving the A’s their first sweep of the Royals at Kauffman Stadium since the 2016 season.
