The Yankees had been shut out in the opener on Monday, but made sure that wouldn’t happen again, as they scored four runs in the first inning on Tuesday. They wouldn’t score again, but it was enough runs, as they held off the A’s to win for the fourth time in six games. Wednesday they will look to stay hot when they send Clarke Schmidt to the mound. Schmidt comes into the game 1-0 with a 3.15 ERA.

He has pitched well in two of his starts, but has given up seven runs each in his last two. One of those came on Friday when he took the loss against the Cleveland Guardians.
With the loss on Tuesday, the A’s have now dropped four of their last five and six of their last eight to fall to 9-15 on the season.
