Max Scherzer returns from the IL on Wednesday and will start for the first time since March in Game 2 of this series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Guardians.

The Toronto Blue Jays go for the series win on the road against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night. This is the second and final series of the season against these relative regional rivals. The Guardians won the first series 2-1 in Toronto back at the beginning of May. The Blue Jays tied the season series 2-2 with a 10-6 win on Tuesday. Toronto is just now 2.5 games back of the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East. Cleveland is trying to avoid falling back to .500 with a win tonight.

The Blue Jays got off to a great start to win the opener, going up 4-0 through the fifth inning. Carlos Santana hit a solo shot in the sixth, and then Lane Thomas hit a three-run homer to get back within two runs only down 6-4. But then George Springer hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to break open the game. Eric Lauer had a good game, keeping the Guardians scoreless until the sixth inning. The lefty went 5.1 innings while only giving up one run to improve to 4-1. Cleveland scored two more runs in the eighth and ninth inning, but it was not enough to pull off the comeback.

The Blue Jays will have a great chance of winning the series tonight because they will be starting the incomparable Max Scherzer. The future Hall of Famer is still looking for his first win in a Toronto uniform. This will be his first start since Opening Weekend. Scherzer is coming off the IL after dealing with a thumb injury. In his first start of the season in March, Scherzer went three innings while giving up two runs against the Baltimore Orioles. The Guardians will try to tie up this series by starting Gavin Williams. The righty can more than hold his own with a 5-3 record and a 3.58 ERA.
