After a 3-3 road trip, the New York Mets play the Toronto Blue Jays in their home opener on Friday afternoon

The New York Mets (3-3) head home for the first time this season as they take on the Toronto Blue Jays (5-2) at Citi Field on Friday afternoon. The Mets took two of three from the Miami Marlins, clinching the series with an extra-innings victory on Wednesday afternoon while Toronto has won four straight after sweeping the visiting Washington Nationals in a three-game set. New York reached the postseason for the second time in three years in 2024, advancing to the National League Championship Series, while the Blue Jays followed up two straight playoff appearances with a last-place finish in the American League East last season.

Pete Alonso tied the game with a three-run homer in the eighth inning Wednesday and the Mets plated two runs in the top of the 11th in their 6-5 win at Miami. Alonso finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and Huascar Brazobán recorded the final two outs in the bottom of the 11th with the tying run in scoring position. Alonso is 6-for-21 in the early going with two homers and eight RBI for a New York squad slashing just .188/.275/.350.

Easton Lucas worked five scoreless innings in his first major-league start on Wednesday and George Springer homered in Toronto’s 4-2 win over Washington. Springer is off to a 9-for-21 start with a homer and five RBI while offseason acquisition Andrés Giménez is 8-for-26 with three home runs and six RBI.

Right-hander Tylor Megill won his first start for the Mets on Friday, striking out six and allowing a run on three hits against the Houston Astros and gets the call for the home opener. Right-hander Kevin Gausman gets the ball for Toronto after allowing two runs on three hits in six innings in a win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
