The Blue Jays will head to BayCare Ballpark on Saturday for a spring training matchup with the Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies will host the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon at BayCare Ballpark as the teams continue to prepare for Opening Day which is just two a few weeks away. The Phillies have struggled over the last several games, losing five in a row with the most recent being a tough 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. Tyler Phillips was credited with the loss on the mound after giving up two earned runs in 1.1 innings of work. He also walked two and had zero strikeouts during his time in the game. The team’s only runs came from the bats of Otto Kemp with an RBI double in the second and Kody Clemens with a solo shot in the top of the sixth, his second homer of spring training. While spring training is the time to work out the kinks, the Phillies seem to have a lot to figure out before season begins.

The Blue Jays have had a mixed bag of results throughout spring training thus far, but dropped their most recent game to the Yankees on Friday in a close 8-7 defeat. Addison Barger led at the plate for Toronto, going 2-for-2 with one RBI as the only player who finished the game with multiple hits. Nathan Lukes hit his first home run of spring training, a solo shot to right center to make it a 2-1 game after the Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the first. Barger and Will Wagner each hit doubles for a single RBI each while Daulton Varsho and Joey Loperfido each hit RBI singles, as well. Arjun Nimmala grounded into a forced out to be credited with the Blue Jays’ sixth run of the game and the seventh came across home plate on a throwing error by the Yankees. Hayden Jueger came in for the save, but ended up giving up two earned runs and was credited with the loss after facing just one batter, Cole Gabrielson, who hit a walk-off double.

The Blue Jays and the Phillies have already met once during spring training and Toronto pulled off a narrow 5-4 victory.
