The Toronto Blue Jays take on the rival Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon in a spring training matchup. The Blue Jays played split squad games against the Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers on Saturday. It is the first of two times they will do that this spring. The Blue Jays came into the weekend 7-5 in the spring and had won three of five. The Blue Jays offseason has been filled with news of them trying to get Vlad Guerrero Jr. to sign an extension and them not being able to get it done. Guerrero Jr. will be a free agent after the season and is a big part of the team, but it is not looking good right now that they will get it done. They did go out and sign Max Scherzer to go with ace Jose Berrios and bolster the pitching staff. They are hoping they can compete with the Yankees and Orioles for the top of the AL East this season before they possibly lose Guerrero Jr.

This is the first meeting between the two teams as they will also play each other on March 20 before they get familiar with each other during the regular season.

The Rays are getting ready for a season in which they will play at the New York Yankees spring training field thanks to the roof being blown off during Hurricane Milton last year.

The Rays have been one of the best teams in the AL East for a few years, but they struggled last year in falling to the bottom of the division.

They do get ace Shane McClanahan back who was out all last year due to injury. If he can get back to his form from a few years ago the pitching staff will have a big boost.
