Off three straight stellar starts, the Braves turn to Spencer Schwellenbach against the Blue Jays in search of season’s first winning streak

Having alternated wins and losses over the last 10 games, the Atlanta Braves head into Tuesday night’s game looking for their first back-to-back wins of the 2025 Major League Baseball season as they take on the Toronto Blue Jays inside Rogers Centre with young right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach (1-0, 0.45 ERA) on the mound. The Blue Jays have been a streaky team this season having posted a three win and a four win streak but have now lost three of their last four outings as they turn to veteran right hander Kevin Gausman (1-1, 2.33 ERA) who has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his first three starts this season.

In his second season in the majors, Spencer Schwellenbach owns the best ERA in baseball having allowed just one earned run in his first three starts yielding just 10 hits in 20.0 innings of work while striking out 19 batters. Schwellenbach, a second-round selection by Atlanta in the 2021 MLB Draft, made his big league debut on May 29, 2024 against Washington and lost his first two starts before finding a groove picking up three victories each in July and September where he went 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA in six starts.

Blue Jays right fielder George Springer leads the team with his .375 batting average, ranking third in MLB, but has been held without a hit in three of his last four games and missed Monday’s game against Atlanta due to  inflammation in his left wrist and is listed as day-to-day.

The Braves have won three of the last four games in this series including taking two of three at Truist Field last season. Atlanta’s win on Monday was the clubs first in Toronto since 2019 having lost six straight on the road in this series.
