The Pittsburgh Pirates come back home to host the Atlanta Braves for this weekend series starting Friday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates hope to end a seven-game losing streak when they host the Atlanta Braves for this weekend series starting Friday night. They hope things switch up after the club let go of manager Derek Shelton. Pittsburgh’s bench coach Don Kelly has been named interim manager. This is the first series of the season between these two clubs. They are trending in very different directions. The Pirates had a good start to the season but have lost 10 of their last 11 games. After a slow start to the season, Atlanta has won four of its last five and will go for back-to-back wins tonight to get back to .500 on the season. The Braves will be the -155 favorites to grab the opener even as the road team where they have a 6-13 record.

The Braves are coming off a 3-1 series win in a four-game set against the Cincinnati Reds. Atlanta won the series on Thursday in dramatic fashion beating the Reds 5-4 in 11 innings. Drake Baldwin played the hero in the series finale hitting a walk off RBI single to drive in the automatic runner Ozzie Albies. Things were looking bleak for the Braves when the Reds scored two runs in the top of the ninth off a two-run homer by right fielder Rece Hinds. The Braves hadn’t scored until the fifth inning but they doubled their run total in the ninth as well scoring two runs to force extras. Bryce Elder will get the start in the opener for Atlanta and the righty has a 2-1 record with a 5.06 ERA.

The Pirates were swept in their last series against the St. Louis Cardinals coming up flat losing the finale 5-0. Pittsburgh was climbing an uphill battle all series with St. Louis now holding a 15-6 record at home. The Pirates were held to just four hits in the finale as Cardinals starter Sonny Gray was unstoppable going seven scoreless innings while only surrendering two hits. Bailey Falter will try to stop the bleeding as the lefty gets the start for the Pirates tonight. Falter is 1-3 with the exact same 5.06 ERA as Elder. At least the Pirates are back home.
