The Braves are coming off of a 2024 Major League Baseball campaign in which they finished in second place in the National League East thanks to an overall record of 89-73 in the regular season. The team finished six games behind the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies who had a 95-67 mark in the previous campaign. Atlanta’s record also made them the fifth-place team in the National League overall, which set the team up with a NL Wild Card Series matchup against the San Diego Padres.

The Braves then opened the postseason with a 4-0 shutout defeat against the Padres in game one of the wild card series at Petco Park. The team from Georgia cycled through four different pitched in the loss, whith AJ Smith-Shawver alowing four hits and three runs in just over one inning of action.
Then, Atlanta fell in a narrow 5-4 finish at Petco Park again in game two, which eliminated the Braves from the postseason.
Michael Harris II, Jorge Soler and Orlando Arcia all scored runs in the defeat away from home in game two.
Meanwhile, the Rays finished last season as the fourth-placed team in the American League East table with an overall record of 80-82, 14 games behind the American League-leading New York Yankees.
