Chris Sale will take the mound on Friday night as the Braves kick off a series against Garrett Crotchet and the Red Sox.

A cross-league matchup will take place on Friday night as the National League East Atlanta Braves take on the American League East Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Braves come into the weekend in third place in the NL East with a record of 22-22 so far. The team trails the leading New York Mets by six games and the second-place Philadelphia Phillies by three-and-a-half games. The Braves took on NL East foes, the Washington Nationals, earlier this week and won the series 3-1, with the final being a 5-2 victory. AJ Smith-Shawver earned the win on the mound after throwing for six innings in which he struck out two batters. Nick Allen led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Drake Baldwin finished the game with three hits, but was unable to bring anyone home.

The Red Sox are currently sitting in second place in the AL East with a record of 22-23 and are four games behind the Yankees, who hold the top spot. This week, the team wrapped up a series with the Detroit Tigers in which the Tigers pulled off a sweep, outscoring the Red Sox 30-16. The final game of the series was kept the closest, but Boston came up just short in a 6-5 loss which was credited to Aroldis Chapman after he gave up one earned run in the ninth to blow the save. Offensively, the team played well as five different players recorded RBIs in the loss.

Tonight’s series opener will see Chris Sale take the mound for the Braves. The left-handed pitcher is 1-3 so far this season and has an ERA of 3.97. Garrett Crotchet will get the start for Boston. Crotchet is 4-2 on the season and the left-hander has an ERA of 1.93 ahead of the game.
