Paul Skenes takes the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night trying to even this series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Milwaukee Brewers go for a commanding 2-0 series lead in this first matchup of the season against the Pittsburgh Pirates this season on Friday night. Milwaukee’s offense was potent in the opener on Thursday, winning 8-5. The Brewers have now won four of their last five games and have a chance tonight to get back to .500 overall on the season. The loss on Thursday ended Pittsburgh’s chance to win three in a row. Despite being 13.5 games back in the division, the Pirates are slight -125 favorites to tie this series up tonight at home.

Christian Yelich was the reason the Brewers beat the Pirates on Thursday, belting two homers in the victory. Yelich didn’t waste any time hitting his first homer, which was a three-run shot, in the first inning. He hit another one in the sixth to collect his 11th multi-homer game of his career. Starter Carlos Rodriguez struck out Bryan Reynolds with two on and two out, impressively coming back out after a nearly two-hour rain delay to earn his first MLB win. The Pirates scored a couple of runs in the ninth but it wasn’t enough to mount a serious comeback. Before this game, Pittsburgh went 26 games scoring four runs or less. That tied the Pirates with four other teams for the longest streak in the majors all time.

Freddy Peralta will try to keep them under five again when the righty gets the start for the Brewers tonight. He is likely to do it with a 5-3 record with a 2.59 ERA. The Pirates will counter with an ace of their own in Paul Skenes. The reigning Rookie of the Year has a 3-5 record, but it really isn’t his fault with a stellar 2.44 ERA. We are likely in for a great pitcher’s duel come Friday night.
