The St. Louis Cardinals look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive and sweep the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night.

The St. Louis Cardinals will try to go for the series sweep on the road on Wednesday in this finale against the San Francisco Giants. The Cardinals will go for their fourth win in a row tonight. While it’s not exactly the season the Cardinals were hoping for, they still have a chance to finish above .500. They currently sit at 78-80 heading into this series finale. The Cardinals lead the season series against the Giants 4-1 and San Francisco sits one game back of St. Louis’ record. The Giants have struggled down the stretch, as they try to avoid losing three games in a row tonight. San Francisco has already lost four of its last five.

San Francisco looked like it was going to make a run in the NL Wild Card race. These last two games have been tough pills to swallow with the team losing the opener 6-5 and then a 9-8 loss on Tuesday, which officially eliminated San Francisco from the playoffs. The Cardinals look to keep their slim hopes alive, sitting 3.5 games behind the New York Mets with four games left. St. Louis has to win out to have any hope. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds both sit ahead of the Cardinals.

Alec Burleson played the hero in Game 2, getting the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning with one out. The task was even tougher since closer Ryan Walker was in the game. Brendan Donovan couldn’t have done his job much better leading off for the Cardinals, as the second baseman went 4-for-5 with a career-high four doubles while adding an RBI. St. Louis got off to a hot start scoring the first three runs of the game, but San Francisco went on a rally starting with a five-run third inning. The Giants looked like they all but had it in the bag, going up 8-3 in the sixth inning. Ivan Herrera started the rally with a three-run homer in the seventh and Nolan Arenado tacked on a homer of his own. St. Louis never looked back.

The Cardinals will try to keep up hope when they start Sonny Gray, who is 14-8 with a 4.33 ERA. The Giants will have a good chance of not getting swept when they start Robbie Ray, who is 11-8 with a 3.65 ERA.
