The Mets are coming off a tough series loss in the rubber match against the Twins on Wednesday afternoon by a 4-3 final in 10 innings. The Twins had only won five games coming into the series but found a way to win. Ty France hit a game and series winning single in the bottom of the 10th to walk off the game. New York had trouble scoring all game but got all three of its runs in the eighth inning to tie the game. The Mets had built up a 12-inning scoreless streak until Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker both hit RBI doubles. Then Luisangel Acuña tied the game with a two-out RBI single. They hadn’t lost back-to-back games all season until the walk off. But it was the last run they would score as the Mets lost their first series since their opening one against Houston. New York will try to rebound with Griffin Canning who gets the start tonight. The righty is 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA.

After getting shut out 2-0 in Game 2, the Cardinals bounced back in the rubber match against the Astros winning 4-1. No one was more important in this game on Wednesday than Lars Nootbaar who hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning. It gave Steven Matz all the run support he would need to earn the win in his first start of the season going five innings while only giving up two hits and one run. Andre Pallante will try to replicate that performance tonight. The righty has been great in his first three starts of the season where he’s gone 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA.
