The St. Louis Cardinals look to quickly turn the page from over the weekend when they start this series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.

The St. Louis Cardinals are glad to get out of Boston when they travel to start a new series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. The Cardinals have lost four of their last five including a three-game sweep against the Red Sox. Game 2 of that series was rained out on Saturday so it was pushed as a double header on Sunday and St. Louis lost in extras and then lost in a rout 18-7 on Sunday Night Baseball. This will be the first series between these two NL Central rivals on Monday with the Cardinals trying to get back to .500 with a win today. Pittsburgh had a slow start to the season with a 3-7 record as they try to get back to .500 at home tonight. The Cardinals have yet to win a game on the road this season after that sweep. St. Louis is the -125 favorite to change that tonight.

The Cardinals lost the first game of the double header 5-4 in 10 innings after Wilyer Abreu hit the walk-off single off the Green Monster. Then the Sunday Night Baseball game got out of hand quickly. Boston was up 10-0 after three innings. Alex Bregman hit a three-run homer and tied a career-high with six RBIs. If that wasn’t enough, Rafael Devers collected four hits and drove in three. The Cardinals were down as much as 18-3 before rallying a bit in the ninth inning. It was a weekend to forget for St. Louis. The Cards will try to turn the page by starting Matthew Liberatore. The righty went six innings giving up three runs and three hits against the Los Angeles Angels in his season debut in a game that St. Louis ultimately lost in 11 innings.

The Pirates are coming off a 5-4 victory in 11 innings to avoid a sweep in their home opening series against the New York Yankees on Sunday. The new Pirate Tommy Pham hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th. It was a huge relief as New York scored three in the ninth to tie the game and it got so close to pulling off the comeback and sweeping the series. Pittsburgh will try to keep the momentum rolling tonight by starting Carmen Mlodzinski. The righty is trying to bounce back from a loss in his season debut against the Tampa Bay Rays where he went 3.2 innings giving up seven hits and four runs.
