Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates go for the series win against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.

The Pittsburgh Pirates go for their third win in a row and for the series victory tonight when they host the St. Louis Cardinals for Game 2 on Tuesday. The Cardinals meanwhile are trying to stop the bleeding and avoid losing five straight. After a sweep in Boston, a change of scenery did not help the Cardinals’ cause as they lost the opener 8-4 to the Pirates. The St. Louis pitching has really struggled in this four-game streak with the Cardinals giving up 18 and 13 runs in two seperate games. The Cardinals have still yet to win a road game this season with those four games all coming away from Busch Stadium. The Pirates will be the favorite to win the series at home tonight with a -135 line.

Pittsburgh’s offense came in clutch on Monday with Joey Bart, Andrew McCutchen, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa all drove in two runs. The game was close most of the way until Pittsburgh broke it open scoring four in the seventh with a McCutchen two RBI-double and a Bart RBI triple. The Cardinals would leave seven runners on base. Starter Carmen Mlodzinski would walk away with the win, going five innings giving up five hits with only one earned run while striking out six.

The Cardinals hope to reverse their fortunes on the mound by starting veteran Sonny Gray on Tuesday. Gray did not get the win in his last start even though the Cardinals won 12-5 against the Los Angeles Angels with most of those runs coming in the later innings. Gray went six innings while giving up five runs and two homers in the no decision in his second start of the season. The Cardinals offense will be given no favors tonight with Paul Skenes getting the start for the Pirates. The ace got his first victory of the season last start against the Tampa Bay Rays where he went seven dominant innings giving up only three hits and no runs with six strikeouts.
