After a sluggish start to the season, the Tigers play host to AL Central rival White Sox in the home opener

Comerica Park in downtown Detroit sees its first action of the 2025 season on Friday afternoon as the Detroit Tigers begin a three-game weekend series against the Chicago White Sox as Jack Flaherty (0-0, 3.18) takes to the rubber in Motown. The Tigers took two of three games from Seattle earlier in the week as they face their first American League Central Division foe of the season against a White Sox side that went 2-4 over their season opening six-game home stand winning the first game of each series against the Angels and Twins but scored a combined six runs in the final four games of those respective series.

The White Sox will start right-hander Jonathan Cannon (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who was solid in his season debut against the Angels on Saturday striking out five batters over five scoreless innings and allowing just four hits. In his rookie season last year, Cannon made 21 starts for Chicago winning five games while posting an ERA of 4.49 finishing the season with a flurry of quality starts going 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA in five September starts including a win over Detroit in his final start of the year.

Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler is off to a hot start this season hitting .500 through his first four games posting a pair of multi-hit efforts in that span. Dingler, the Tigers second-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, made his big league debut in July of 2024 appearing in 27 games for Detroit as they made their first playoff appearance in a decade.

Detroit was 10-3 against Chicago a year ago though the White Sox won the last two games of their head-to-head series back in September with both wins coming for four runs each.
