With new manager Terry Francona at the helm, the Cincinnati Reds will look to take the next step in the National League Central with a slew of young players in the 2025 season.

Along with a new veteran manager like Terry Francona, who won two World Series championships with the Boston Red Sox, a mix of veterans and young players should make the Reds chances to win the National League Central very interesting. Nick Krall, president of baseball operations, brought in Dodgers veteran Gavin Lux, along with starting pitchers Brady Singer and Wade Miley, relievers Taylor Rogers and Scott Barlow, left fielder Austin Hays and catcher Jose Trevino. Veteran starting pitcher Nick Martinez returned as a free agent and reliever Brent Suter was re-signed.

All of those players are tasked with setting examples for talented young teammates like shortstop Elly De La Cruz and second baseman Matt McLain. Those two were apart of the 2024 team that saw the Reds go 77-85. The Reds finished fourth in the National League Central.

The offense had plenty of issues in 2024 and struggled to consistently score runs with any big bats in the middle of the lineup.The team still did not sign a big bat in the offseason. The Reds do have a healthy McLain back after he missed all of 2024. De La Cruz hit 25 home runs with a Major League-leading 67 steals last season and should improve on that this season.
