The red-hot Chicago Cubs look to run their winning streak to four games as the series continues against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

Winners of 13 of their last 16 games, the Chicago Cubs lead the National League Central Division as they head into Wednesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals in search of their second four-game winning streak since Memorial Day Weekend, as their nine-game road trip rolls into the nation’s capital. The Nationals had won four games in a row to close out May, but are winless in two June games dropping the series finale at Arizona on Sunday before allowing a five-run fourth inning in Tuesday’s series opening 8-3 home loss to the Cubs. Chicago will send veteran southpaw Matthew Boyd (5-2, 3.08 ERA) to the mound off a dazzling eight-strikeout performance against Colorado last week.

With the fifth-most total bases in all of Major League Baseball, Cubs centerfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong leads Chicago with 15 home runs this season and is second behind fellow outfielder Seiya Suzuki with 51 RBIs in his first 60 games this season. Crow-Armstrong, in his third big league season, has posted career highs in doubles, home runs and RBIs already this season and comes into Wednesday’s game one RBI shy of 100 for his career. The 23-year-old was a first round selection by the Mets in the 2020 MLB Draft, but was sent to Chicago as part of the deal that landed New York Javier Baez and Trevor Williams the following year.

Washington will start 26-year-old lefty MacKenzie Gore (2-5, 3.16 ERA), who is winless in his last seven outings despite holding opponents to three earned runs or less in six of his last seven starts. Gore is 2-2 with a 5.24 ERA with 25 strikeouts in four career appearances against Chicago.

Chicago has dominated this series of late, winning nine of the last 10 meetings since July 2023, including all four games played at Washington.
