The Chicago Cubs take on the San Diego Padres in the finale of their three-game series on Wednesday evening. The Cubs came to San Diego fresh off a huge series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, but they blew an eight-run lead to lose 9-8 in the first game of the series. They bounced back on Tuesday to get a 5-1 win to even the series. Yan Gomes hit a home run to lead off the fifth and then Christopher Morel added his first career grand slam to put the Cubs up five runs. Ben Brown pitched well in his first major league start, but didn’t get the win, as he only went 4.2 innings.

The Padres got the huge comeback win on Monday, but there wouldn’t be a repeat on Tuesday as they managed just a single run in the sixth on Eguy Rosario’s pinch-hit home run.
The Padres will now send Dylan Cease to the mound as they try and get the series win. Cease is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in his first season with the Padres.
Cease pitched his first five years in the league with the Chicago White Sox before being traded to the Padres in the offseason.
