How to Watch Diamondbacks at Giants (May 12): Stream MLB Live, TV Channel

Justin Verlander aims for his first win with the San Francisco Giants, as their homestand begins with the Arizona Diamondbacks in a division showdown on Monday.

Winless in his first eight starts in The Bay, San Francisco Giants right-hander Justin Verlander (0-2, 4.50 ERA) takes the mound on Monday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a series opening matchup of National League West contenders. The Diamondbacks will counter with veteran righty Merrill Kelly (3-2, 4.09 ERA), who has allowed three earned runs or less in seven of his first eight starts, but has gone four consecutive outings without a victory. Arizona has alternated wins and losses over the last nine games, while the Giants come into this series on a three-game losing streak after being swept by the Twins over the weekend.

Verlander, in his 20th season in the Majors, is one of only 19 pitchers in the history of the game to total over 3,000 career strikeouts. He is a nine-time All-Star and two-time World Series Champion who is a surefire first ballot Hall of Famer when he retires. After 13 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Verlander had two stints with the Houston Astros, where he won two Cy Young Awards, twice led the league in wins, and earned AL Comeback Player of the Year honors.

Diamondbacks right fielder Corbin Carroll ranks third in Major League Baseball with 98 total bases and is tied for sixth in the league with 11 home runs this season. Carroll, the 2023 NL Rookie of the Year, was the 16th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and has posted two consecutive 20 home run campaigns in each of his first two full seasons in the league.

San Francisco has won four of the last six games in this series, but Arizona has won four of the last six games played at Oracle Park, including a 17-1 thrashing of the Giants in April 2024.
