After a rain suspension, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds will play a double header of sorts on Saturday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds are just coming off a very long pause is all. Game 1 of this series was suspended on Friday after the sixth inning due to rain. The score was tied 3-3 after six innings. That game will resume on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. ET. Once that first game concludes, the second will start approximately 40 minutes later likely close to the regular scheduled time of 4:10 p.m. ET. Before coming into this series, the D’backs and Reds were trending in opposite directions. Cincinnati had lost four of its last five games while Arizona is going for a five-game winning streak. The Diamondbacks are also trying to move past .500 today. Game 2 is projected to be a coin flip with Arizona holding a slight -115 advantage.

Before the rain stopped the first game on Friday, Arizona jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning. The Diamondbacks were fueled by a two-run homer by Ketel Marte. Geraldo Perdomo wanted to get in on the fun by hitting a solo shot right after Marte. Cincy wasn’t daunted in the slightest though when T.J. Friedel hit a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the third. The Reds kept the homer script rolling tying the game in the sixth inning before the suspension by Christian Encarnacion-Strand. Hopefully this game will end with even more fireworks as it resumes this afternoon.

For Game 2, the projected starter for the Reds will be Nick Martinez. The righty is 3-6 but has a 3.89 ERA. Ryne Nelson will go for the Diamondbacks coming in with a 2-1 record and a 3.43 ERA. Nelson and the rest of the Arizona pitching staff will need to step up now that ace Corbin Burnes was shut down for the season on Friday with the team announcing he will need Tommy John surgery.
