Division leading Dodgers look for seventh consecutive victory as road trip continues against the Braves

Winless in his last four starts, Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach (1-2, 2.87 ERA) takes the mound on Saturday night inside Truist Park looking to end the Braves two-game losing skid as they host the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of their three-game weekend series. The Dodgers have won six games in a row after Friday’s 2-1 road win holding Atlanta to just two hits as ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto picked up his fourth win of the season and lowered his league leading ERA to 0.90 as they turn to another young Japanese right-hander with rookie Roki Sasaki (0-1, 3.55 ERA) making his seventh major league start in search of his first win in the bigs.

Tied for the league lead with 32 runs batted in, Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernandez saw his nine-game hit streak end in Friday’s win snapping a span that saw the 32-year-old Dominican Republic native collect 17 hits including six doubles, four home runs and 15 RBIs and raising his batting average to .303. Hernandez, in his second season with Los Angeles, recently passed 200 career doubles, 200 home runs, and 600 RBIs and will play in his 1,000th career MLB game next week. The former Toronto Blue Jay paid immediate dividends in 2024 helping the Dodgers win the World Series hitting three home runs and driving in 15 runs in the post season.

Braves third baseman Austin Riley has 15 hits in his last 12 games and leads Atlanta in hits, doubles, RBIs and total bases hitting .279 through his first 31 games this season. Now in his seventh season with Atlanta, Riley is on pace for his fourth 30-home run campaign and fourth in the last five years.

Los Angeles has won 10 of the last 12 games in this series including each of the last six outscoring Atlanta 34-10 in that span.
