We’re in for a great pitching matchup between Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Verlander when San Francisco Giants host the Los Angeles Dodgers.

One of the best rivalries in the game is back when the San Francisco Giants host the Los Angeles Dodgers, for this weekend series starting Friday night. These two are set to play two more series before the end of the regular season. The Giants and Dodgers will play for one more series, just four days after this one is down in LA. The Dodgers lead the regular season series so far 4-2. The Giants may be eight games back of the Dodgers and first place in the NL West, but San Francisco is still vying for an NL Wild Card spot. The Giants are just two games back of the New York Mets for the third and final Wild Card position. San Francisco has to keep its foot on the pedal, because it is also tied with the Reds in the NL Wild Card standings. The Dodgers meanwhile go for their fifth win in a row, as they try to maintain their three-game advantage over the San Diego Padres for the division lead. Los Angeles will be the -160 favorite even on the road tonight.

The Giants are coming off a series win against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are also fighting for a NL Wild Card spot. The Giants narrowly missed out on a series sweep of their division rival with a 5-3 loss in the finale on Wednesday. Eduardo Rodriguez extremely hampered the San Francisco lineup, going 6.1 scoreless innings while only giving up two hits. The Giants couldn’t get on the board until the eighth inning, when Raphael Devers doubled to center to bring two runs home. San Francisco will try to get off on the right foot tonight by starting Justin Verlander. The veteran righty is 3-10 with a 4.09 ERA.

The Dodgers are coming off a series sweep against the Colorado Rockies. Only the first game was close, and LA nearly no-hit the Rockies in the opener. LA completed the sweep with a 9-0 victory in the series finale. Blake Snell was dominant in the shutout, going six scoreless innings while only giving up two hits and striking out 11 batters. Mookie Betts hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to put the exclamation point on the series. LA will have another strong starter for tonight’s game in Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The righty is coming off a game against the Baltimore Orioles where he was one out away from a no-hitter. Shockingly, Yamamoto didn’t get the win in that game as the Orioles pulled off the surprising comeback. Yamamoto is 11-8 with a 2.72 ERA this season.
