Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the hill for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they open a 3-game series with the Cleveland Indians on Monday

The Cleveland Guardians (29-23) return home from a 4-5 road trip when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers (32-21) at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Monday night. For the Guardians, it marks their second straight series against a division leader after they took three of four from the Detroit Tigers over the weekend while the Dodgers dropped two of three at the New York Mets. Los Angeles signed right-handed reliever Chris Stratton on Sunday, optioning Bobby Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Cleveland scratched first baseman Carlos Santana from Sunday’s lineup with tightness in his left leg.

The Guardians managed just two hits and made three errors in a 5-0 loss at Detroit on Sunday as starter Logan Allen was roughed up in the fourth inning, surrendering five runs—four of them earned—and the bats were shut down by Tarik Skubal, who struck out 13. José Ramírez comes into the series slashing .309/.365/.516 with nine home runs, 26 RBI and 13 stolen bases, while Kyle Manzardo leads the club with 10 homers. Manzardo and Santana each have 27 RBI.

Shohei Ohtani hit a leadoff homer Sunday night, but the Dodgers failed to capitalize with runners at second and third with no outs in the top of the first in their 3-1 loss at New York. Only one of the runs allowed in the loss was earned as Los Angeles made four errors on the night. Freddie Freeman leads the National League with a .357 average and a 1.063 OPS while Ohtani shares the major-league lead with 18 home runs and Teoscar Hernández tops the club with 41 RBI.

Right-hander Gavin Williams (5-2) opens the series for Cleveland. He has a 3.94 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 10 starts and 48 innings with 57 strikeouts. The Dodgers counter with right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (5-3), who has a 1.86 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 10 starts and 58 innings to go with 68 punchouts.
