In one of the best rivalries in baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants in their final series of the season.

The San Francisco Giants need to go on a huge run to finish the season, starting in the opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. This will be the start of a four-game set tonight, which will be the last of the regular season between these NL West rivals. The Giants are now back at .500 after winning their finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, on Wednesday 5-1 in 11 innings. Before the win to get them back to 76-76, the Giants lost five of their last six games. Now San Francisco is two games back of the New York Mets for the last NL Wild Card spot. Arizona and Cincinnati are ahead of the Giants in this chase. Los Angeles salvaged a win in its finale against the Philadelphia Phillies in its last series. The Dodgers still hold a two-game lead over the San Diego Padres for the NL West lead. The Dodgers lead this season series 6-3, and they won their last series in San Francisco last week 2-1. Los Angeles will be the -165 favorite to win this opener on Thursday.

The Giants came up with a clutch win on Wednesday, finally breaking out in the 11th inning to avoid the series sweep against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Brandon Pfaadt went nine innings of one-hit ball, but the Diamondbacks still couldn’t capitalize. Justin Verlander had one of his best starts as a Giant going seven scoreless innings, while only giving up three hits. But he was also not able to secure the win. Both teams didn’t score a run in the first 10 innings. Christian Koss got the offense rolling, hitting a two-run double to highlight the five-run 11th inning. Corbin Carroll hit a sac fly in the bottom of the 11th, but it was all the run support the Diamondbacks could muster. The Giants will start Logan Webb in the opener tonight, who is 14-10 with a 3.34 ERA.

The Dodgers also got a great start on the mound on Wednesday, beating Philadelphia 5-0 to avoid a sweep. Blake Snell was brilliant, striking out a season-high 12 batters to improve to 5-4 on the season. He went seven scoreless innings, while only giving up two hits against the Phillies. LA was in complete control the whole way, with Shohei Ohtani hitting his 51st homer of the season. The Dodgers will start a heavy-hitter of their own on the mound tonight in Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The righty is 11-8 on the season with a 2.66 ERA.
