The Washington Nationals have won five games in a row, coming into this first series of the season against the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

The Washington Nationals host the San Francisco Giants on Friday to start a new series which is their first of the season. Washington is coming into this series on a roll going for its sixth win in a row. The Nationals have already won five of their last six games. This is a welcome reprieve as they lost seven in a row before this stretch. The Giants are trying to catch up to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West but San Francisco is only two games back of first place. The Giants are the better team on paper but Washington is hotter. Odds makers had trouble deciding who the favorite is in this game as well. San Francisco has slightly better odds at -115 but this opener at home for the Nationals is essentially a coin flip.

Washington won two games against the Atlanta Braves in their last series to keep their winning streak alive. The middle game on Wednesday was postponed due to rain. The Nationals won the series on Thursday, beating the Braves 8-7 in 10 innings. Pinch-hitter Amed Rosario absolutely came in clutch, singling in the winning run to walk off the game. It was a nice comeback win as Washington blew the save in the ninth. The Nationals try to keep it hot by starting MacKenzie Gore for this series opener. The lefty is 2-4 with a 3.67 ERA.

The Giants are coming off a series loss against their 2014 World Series opponent in the Kansas City Royals. San Francisco lost the rubber match on Wednesday 8-4 to drop the series. Salvador Perez was just too much to overcome as the veteran catcher collected three hits for the Royals including two homers. Heliot Ramos hit a two-run homer in the ninth but the Royals still cruised to victory. The Giants will try to bounce back by starting Landen Roupp tonight who has a 2-3 record with a 4.11 ERA.
