The San Diego Padres host the San Francisco Giants for their first series of the season starting Tuesday.
The San Diego Padres are starting to slow down since their hot start, trying to end a four-game losing streak when they host the San Francisco Giants to start this two-game series on Tuesday. The Padres were in first place in the stacked National League West division, but have fallen behind both the Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers in the standings. The Giants are trending in the opposite direction winning four of their last five games and going for their third win in a row tonight. This is the first series of the season between these division rivals.

The Padres got swept in their last series against the Tampa Bay Rays, only scoring three runs across all three games. San Diego lost 4-2 in the finale on Sunday against Tampa. The Rays got the go-ahead run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch and San Diego could only muster five hits. The pitching has not been the problem in this slide, but they’ll be given a huge shot in the arm when San Diego starts Nick Pivetta, who is 4-1 with a 1.20 ERA.
The Giants are coming off a series win against the Texas Rangers over the weekend. San Francisco won the finale 3-2 on Sunday. The Giants won in unbelievable fashion with a Heliot Ramos walk-off little league homer, where Texas committed two errors on one play to lose the game. Ramos only hit a chop infield dribbler to the pitcher and turned it into the winning run. The Giants will follow that up with one of their best pitchers, starting Logan Webb, who is 3-1 with a 1.98 ERA. Expect another low-scoring pitcher’s duel tonight.
